Where Should I Take A Trip This Summer?

I can feel it coming. Today was a lovely 70 degrees here in Bozeman, MT. Summer is coming up quick and it’s going to be a good one. Summer is usually when people do the majority of their traveling here in the States. Do you have any upcoming summer trips in the works? If not, I'm here to help you brainstorm. Here are a few places that would make for some amazing summer vacations in 2023. I’ll make sure to cover all the bases too. Whether your looking for a luxury trip to relax or just trying to travel and have some fun on a budget. Alright, here we go, first up

1. Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como is an absolutely stunning destination located in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. Known for its crystal-clear waters, stunning mountains, and picturesque towns. This is going to fall into the middle ground between a luxurious relaxing trip on a budget. It’s not going to be the cheapest of the options but you don’t need to spend a ton of money to have an amazing vacation at Lake Como. Especially if you rent a bigger place and invite family or friends to come along.

There are several reasons why you should consider visiting Lake Como:

  1. Scenic Beauty: The lake's surroundings are absolutely stunning, with lush green hills, colorful villages, and magnificent mountains that offer breathtaking views. It's no wonder that Lake Como has been a favorite destination for poets, writers, and artists for centuries.

  2. Cultural Experience: The towns around Lake Como are full of history and culture. From the medieval streets of Como to the villas of Bellagio, there are plenty of attractions to explore. The lake is also surrounded by stunning gardens, churches, and museums that are worth a visit.

  3. Outdoor Activities: The lake offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, boating, and fishing. You can also take a cable car to the top of the surrounding mountains for stunning views of the lake and the surrounding landscape.

The best time to visit Lake Como is during the summer months, from June to August. During this time the weather is warm, sunny, and the lake is perfect for swimming and other water activities. However, keep in mind that this is also the busiest time of the year, and the towns around the lake can get a bit crowded. That is a small price to pay for the beauty and amazing time you’ll have there.

2. San Juan Islands, USA

There are many reasons why you should consider visiting the San Juan Islands for your summer vacation! We went there last year for the first time and it was absolutely amazing! I was not at all expecting it to be that beautiful and relaxing. I still remember turning a corner and being greeted with a field of blooming purple lavender. It has so much to offer including:

  1. Natural Beauty: The San Juan Islands are known for their stunning natural beauty, from the rugged coastline to the lush forests and scenic vistas. With plenty of opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and wildlife watching, the islands are the perfect place to connect with nature and unwind. Mid-June through early September is prime whale season so maybe plan your trip sometime in that time frame for a full experience.

  2. Outdoor Activities: There are plenty of activities to keep you busy on the San Juan Islands, including whale-watching tours, fishing charters, and sailing excursions. You can also explore the islands by bike or on foot, with plenty of trails and scenic routes to discover.

  3. Local Culture: The San Juan Islands are home to a vibrant local culture, with plenty of art galleries, museums, and music festivals to explore. You can also sample the delicious local cuisine, including fresh seafood and farm-to-table produce.

  4. Relaxation: The San Juan Islands are the perfect destination for relaxing. I’m not just saying that. I honestly can’t think of a more relaxing place at the moment. With plenty of secluded beaches, hot springs, and spas, you can enjoy a peaceful and rejuvenating vacation.

  5. Accessibility: While the San Juan Islands feel like a remote and secluded destination, they're actually quite accessible. You can reach the islands by ferry, seaplane, or private boat, and there are plenty of accommodations to choose from, including hotels, bed and breakfasts, and vacation rentals. Or for a really cool experience try camping out there.

3. Milos, Greece

Milos, a charming Greek island located in the Aegean Sea, is an excellent choice for a summer vacation. Here are three reasons why you should definitely consider Milos as your next travel destination.

Firstly, Milos boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. With crystal-clear waters and stunning scenery, beaches like Sarakiniko and Tsigrado. Which means snorkeling, paddleboarding, windsurfing, you name it. Whether you want to relax under the sun or enjoy some thrilling water sports, Milos has something for everyone. I really want to plan a sailing trip there. Sailing through the islands of Greece is bucket list-worthy stuff.

Secondly, Milos has a rich history and culture that you can explore. The island was once home to the Venus de Milo, a famous ancient Greek statue that is now located in the Louvre Museum in Paris. Milos also has several archaeological sites that are worth visiting, such as the ancient Roman theatre and the Catacombs.

Finally, Milos is still a hidden gem that has not yet been overrun by tourists, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a more relaxed and peaceful vacation. With its small size and tranquil atmosphere, Milos offers a genuine Greek island experience that is free from the hustle and bustle of larger, more touristy destinations.

Milos is quickly becoming one of Greece's top travel destinations. So make sure you get there before everyone else also decides it's a great idea.

A towering mountain face in Chamonix, France

4. Chamonix, France

This is one for those looking to escape the heat a bit and want to have some fun. Chamonix is a place where they love fun. It is full of adrenaline junkies and outdoor gear shops on every corner. This is my top pick for those looking for climbing, hiking, heights, and mountain biking. You get the idea. When I was here it was in their shoulder season. So things were a bit slower, but I could definitely tell what kind of place it was and what everyone is there for.

Chamonix is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery you'll ever see. With towering mountains, sparkling glacial lakes, and lush green forests, Chamonix is a paradise for nature lovers. You can take a cable car up to Aiguille du Midi and enjoy panoramic views of the Mont Blanc massif, or hike the famous Tour du Mont Blanc to see some of the most picturesque landscapes in the world.

Chamonix has a distinctly French feel that will make you feel like you've stepped into a different world. And after a long day of hiking or skiing, you can relax in one of the town's many spas or enjoy a delicious meal at one of its Michelin-starred restaurants.

If you’re a skier you might know this place more as a winter destination, but it’s definitely not lacking in the summer. So check it out. I know I’ll be back there one day that’s for sure.

5. Norway

I don’t have a specific place in Norway in mind but, this is another place to escape the heat. You will though have plenty of sunshine. From May to July the sun doesn’t actually set, so make sure to bring a sleep mask so you don’t go insane from sleep deprivation.

Norway is home to some of the most stunning landscapes in the world, from majestic fjords and snow-capped mountains to crystal-clear lakes and lush green forests. Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, or kayaking, there is no shortage of outdoor activities to indulge in. One of the most popular tourist destinations in Norway is the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its breathtaking beauty.

Norway has a rich cultural heritage that is both fascinating and unique. The country's Viking past can be explored at several museums and historical sites, such as the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo. The Norwegian folk culture is also deeply ingrained in the country's traditions, with music, dance, and food being celebrated in various festivals throughout the summer months.

Norway is definitely not going to fall into the budget category but it will also make for an awe-inspiring trip.

Let me know down below where you guys are thinking of going this summer. Maybe we will run into you there.
