LEVEL8 Luggage Review: Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On
For durable and beautiful luggage, there is one material we are always on the lookout for: Aluminum. I’ve been traveling with aluminum luggage for years now and Level8 is a luggage company that recently sparked my interest.
Level8 luggage did not send us this suitcase for this review. We went ahead and just bought one ourselves to test it out.

Full Review Of This Level8 Case
Firstly, Luggage needs to hold up well from the beginning to the end of your travels.
There is nothing more annoying than spending a good amount of money on luggage and then having to replace it only after a couple of trips. Not saying aluminum luggage won’t get banged up and scratched though. It definitely will.
However with that being said we’ll consider the durability, design, and features of the Level8 Gibraltar Aluminum Carry-On.
Design and Aesthetics
The design is always my favorite part of luggage, personally, I think you can tell a lot about a person by what kind of luggage they are hauling around the airport.
Just like many other aluminum luggage brands, the Level8 Gibraltar has an elegant, simple, and yet classy look. This Carry-On is made of an Aerospace grade aluminum-magnesium alloy giving it a silver-gray hue. Its surface is smooth with a slight sheen.
It has small Level8 branding on the front of the case as well as small logos on each wheel. This suitcase screams elegance, maturity, and confidence.
Level8 did a great job combining functionality with design, which is probably why they are Red Dot Winners. The case has a nice theme of elegance running through it, from the handle grip down to the wheels.
Durability and Strength
Aluminum luggage is known for its exceptional durability, it also provides excellent structural integrity. Unlike traditional luggage materials, it can endure heavy loads and is less likely to flex or deform under pressure.
The Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy material for the case shell, the aluminum alloy handle, and the Aluminum alloy frame allow for a protective barrier between your valuables and any external forces.
This material is used for aircraft joints so you can be confident that your luggage will last you for a long time, it will get scratched here and there but that just adds some personality to your well-traveled suitcase.
Level8 has also included crash-proof metal corner guards that help minimize damage.
Functional Features
I love it when you can tell a company spent a good amount of time discussing and planning their design to be more than just aesthetically pleasing to the eye. As you’ll see they discussed the functionality of their product just as much as the appearance.
The interior has two removable mesh panel dividers one of which includes a zipper for storing small items. These are very nice for keeping your clothes and packing cubes in place so that they don’t all just fall out when you open the case.
My favorite feature of the interior is the included Level8 luggage packing cubes. It comes with four packing cubes, two small, one medium, and one large cube. One of the smaller cubes has a handle attached, dividers, and a zipper mesh.
This is perfect for people like myself who like to have their travel essentials organized. When you start traveling more, organization begins becoming more and more important. Everything has its place so when you're looking for something, you’ll know where it is.
They include detachable rubber patches which I thought was very innovative. Depending on what you will use that cube for you can switch out the patch with that logo.
A very interesting feature of this case is its wheel design, the 360-degree polyurethane wheels are designed to withstand some of the harshest terrains but also be extremely smooth and quiet.
As someone who’s had to haul around a suitcase with a broken wheel, this feature is very important and I’m sure many of you feel the same way. I will definitely just not buy a suitcase if it has bad wheels. Even if everything else about it is great.
This carry-on also has slow closing handles. These come in handy when traveling for always making sure the handles are resting flat against the suitcase.
They also close slowly instead of slapping down which helps greatly reduce noise including vibrations. It’s interesting to see just how far we’ve come with luggage and all the little improvements that have helped create amazing products.
A cool addition they’ve included is their Bisque Level8 luggage tag which is made from Microfiber Leather and Zinc Alloy, a nice luggage tag is always a bonus.
Security and Protection
Keeping your belongings safe throughout your travels is extremely important, especially considering it’s everything you are going to need for the remainder of your trip.
Level8’s Gibraltar Carry-On has dual TSA-approved locks, providing easy access for Customs checking with no need to rip open your suitcase.
The lock allows for only you and TSA to have access giving you peace of mind when handing your valuables to a stranger.
The aluminum shell also allows for an extra layer of protection as getting past this durable aircraft material will be more than just a challenge.
