Incredible Destinations For A Memorable Fall Road Trip

As I look out our apartment window I catch glimpses of leaves falling, birds huddled together to stay warm, and the different hues of orange and yellow on the trees. Fall is here. As I sit here I think how cool would it be to take a road trip and witness the stunning autumn foliage from places all over the country. Surprisingly there are quite a number of states that actually have a proper fall so, here are some of the ones I would recommend. Pack your coats, boots, and some coffee. Check out these four states that have incredible sights.

  1. New England

This is at the top of my list to visit during the fall, New England is known for its stunning fall scenery. The landscape is transformed into a vivid tapestry of reds, oranges, and yellows. Apple orchards come alive with activity, families can go apple picking, sip warm ciders, and indulge in apple pies. You know those scented candles that smell like warm apple pie, pumpkin lattes, and fallen leaves? That’s what I imagine New England smells like.

Explore states like Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut. Each of these states provides a lovely sight of autumn foliage.

2. Aspen, Colorado

Colorado holds a very special place in my heart, this is where I grew up and I can tell you from first-hand experience, that fall in Aspen will leave you speechless. Don’t believe me? See for yourself. The maroon bells in Aspen are a must-see on your fall road trip through Colorado, the aspen trees that blanket the slopes burst into brilliant shades of yellow, creating a striking contrast against the deep green of the evergreens. The scent of pine and the rustling of leaves in the crisp mountain air provide a sensory experience that rejuvenates the soul.

3. Upper Peninsula, Michigan

Michigan is another state that transforms into a breathtaking tapestry of gold, crimson, and emerald. With its dense forests, waterfalls, and pristine lakes, the UP is a hidden gem for fall road trips. The drive along M-26, from Houghton to Copper Harbor, is especially scenic. The UP also offers hidden waterfalls framed by the kaleidoscope of fall colors. The roar of rushing water provides a captivating contrast to the quiet majesty of the surrounding forests.

4. Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

As you wind along the famed Skyline Drive, every twist and turn offers a new perspective on this natural masterpiece. The Blue Ridge Mountains provide a majestic backdrop to the rolling waves of colorful foliage, painting a stunning panorama against the clear blue sky. It’s straight out of a postcard! Wildlife becomes more active during this season, with deer, turkeys, and the occasional black bear making appearances. Birdwatchers are in for a treat as migratory birds pass through, adding an extra layer of enchantment to the experience.
