What Is Travel Tuesday?

It’s a National shopping event where you can get great deals on flights, cruises, hotels, and experiences. This year Travel Tuesday is on November 28th, 2023. Started in 2017 due to the increased demand for experiences rather than material possessions it has increasingly become a popular time for many to purchase their flights. Is it really worth it though?

Is Travel Tuesday A Real Thing?

This is a question I had when I first heard about Travel Tuesday mostly because it was started in 2017 and I was just now hearing about it in 2023.

After some digging, I found out that this term was invented by the Travel website Hopper about six years ago and Hopper seems to be the main source of deals when it comes to Travel Tuesday. According to them, they analyze over 30 billion price points in real-time every day, and over the past seven years, the Tuesday following the Thanksgiving sales has seen the biggest travel deals.

Other companies have also started to pick up on the term and offer exclusive deals for example the Airline Aeromexico has special flight deals internationally and domestically on that day.

From what I’ve gathered a lot of these deals aren’t exclusive to the Tuesday following Cyber Monday it’s simply an extension to those deals and because it’s the last day of the Black Friday weekend frenzy, deals are usually better. With that being said is Travel Tuesday worth it?

Is Travel Tuesday Worth It?

That will be up to you to decide.

This will be my first year looking into it so I will be sure to come back and update you on the deals I find but so far Hopper seems to have some more exclusive deals lined up including hotel rates that can save you up to 50% off.

According to Hopper, Last year’s Travel Tuesday Deals had an impressive 78% increase in deals than on Cyber Monday and 2x more than on Black Friday.

If you’re planning a trip in 2024 or sometime before the end of the year this might be a good opportunity for you to book a trip at a lower rate especially if you are more flexible with your dates.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that Travel Tuesday has the best deals out of the whole year but it definitely is worth looking into during the time of the year when companies are actively trying to sell to you.

This overview of some of last year’s deals is quite impressive, and some of those airlines are expected to participate this year as well.

Travel Tuesday 2023 Deals

This year Hopper is forecasting deals of up to 80% off destinations like Hawaii and up to 50% off of hotels in destinations like Bali and Tokyo.

Since Hopper is the travel website that came up with “Travel Tuesday” If you are looking to score some big savings on upcoming trips I would suggest starting with them.

To stay informed of Hopper’s deals download their app and set price alerts for flights you are thinking about booking or hotels and you’ll get a notification the second a good deal is detected.

Aeromexico is another company advertising Travel Tuesday and since I have a trip planned to Mexico next year this one got my attention. They have flights starting at $99 with more offers to be released on Tuesday the 28th.

Some other offers for this month include:

Expedia and Booking.com: Up to 30% off stays booked between November 16-29

Royal Caribbean: Currently offering 30% off all guests and kids sail free

Priority Pass: You can save up to 30% on a Priority Pass Membership and have access to over 1,400 airport lounges and restaurant dining credits.

Overall

The term Travel Tuesday is definitely becoming more popular and every year more and more brands are advertising deals for “Travel Tuesday” but it doesn’t necessarily mean that these deals are only available on the day after Cyber Monday. In reality, a lot of these deals are being made available earlier in November and companies are extending it to Tuesday after Cyber Monday. After all Travel Tuesday is a catchy name.

Because this is the first year I have heard about it I can’t say these deals will be worth it, however looking at past years the month of November does seem to bring out quite a number of great offers across all travel companies.

If you're hoping to book trips for next year this might be the best time to do so as flights and accommodations usually go up during the holiday season. It never hurts to look into these deals just remember to look at the fine print.
