Download and install the VPN software on your devices. Your phone, tablet, and or laptop can all benefit from the security of a VPN.
Connect to a server in your home country for a more familiar experience. Or you can choose auto connect and it will choose the server that will give you the highest speeds.

Avoid Public Wi-Fi when possible

Public Wi-Fi can be convenient, but it’s also a prime target for cybercriminals. Public Wi-Fi networks are often unsecured, meaning that anyone can access them, including those with malicious intentions. If you need to access sensitive information or make financial transactions, it’s best to avoid public Wi-Fi and use a personal hotspot or your lodging's Wi-Fi instead.

2. Update Your Software

Before traveling, make sure your operating system and all of your software is up-to-date. Criminals often target vulnerabilities in outdated software, so it’s essential to keep your software updated to avoid falling victim to a cyber attack. And make sure you also update all your devices including your phone and apps.

You could also opt for physical Two-Factor Authentication with a security key which I do on some of my accounts but for the majority of cases using a Two-Factor Authentication app such as Authy will be a much more convenient option.

5. Backup Your Data

Right before you leave on your trip, make sure to back up your devices and your important data. If your device is lost or stolen, having a backup will ensure that you don’t fully lose your important files and information.

6. Be Wary of Phishing Scams

Phishing scams are the most common tactic used by cybercriminals to steal sensitive information. When traveling, be extra cautious of unexpected emails or messages, especially if they ask for personal information. Always verify the sender before clicking on any links or entering any information. 7. Keep Your Devices Secure

When traveling, it’s important to keep your devices secure. Make sure to lock your devices with a password, PIN, fingerprint, or your Face ID. And consider using a privacy screen to prevent others from seeing your sensitive information. If you’re carrying a laptop, you could use a laptop lock to prevent theft if you feel that will be necessary.

8. Use Antivirus Software

Antivirus software helps protect your devices from malware and other security threats. Before traveling, make sure to install antivirus software on your devices and keep them updated.
